The Best of Guangdong
What distinguishes Jim’s Chinese Restaurant from other establishments is their commitment to providing authentic Guangdong cuisine with no influences from the American style of cooking. Famous Guangdong dishes such as the Buddha’s Favorites is prepared upon special request.

Guangdong cuisine is characterized by its immense and diverse use of ingredients. This can be connected to Guangzhou’s well-established trading ports since the days of the 13 Factories, giving the area easier access to countless foods and ingredients. Aside from the common use of pork, beef and chicken, Guangdong cuisine makes use of all edible food, including snakes, chicken feet, snails, duck tongue and entrails. Common culinary techniques include steaming, stir-frying, shallow-frying, double-boiling, braising and deep-frying. Chefs maintain the philosophy of bringing out the flavor from the freshest ingredients.
Guangdong cuisine is well known for their sparse use of very mild and simple spices to not over-shadow the natural flavors of the primary ingredients. Ginger, spring onions, sugar, salt, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil and various starches are essential in the cooking process. Garlic is heavily used in dishes as well as five-spice powder, white pepper powder and various other spices. Guangdong sauces are usually lighter compared to the thick, rich and darker sauces found in other Chinese cuisines.
